Guangzhou Development Zone Strengthens Robotics Industry Clustering, Spotlighting Prospects for Scaled Commercial Deployment
The embodied intelligent robotics industry currently faces two core challenges: data scarcity and insufficient real-world scenario training. On July 11, the People’s Government of Guangdong Province and JD.com signed a strategic cooperation agreement covering nine major areas including consumer development, modern logistics, the digital economy, smart healthcare, domestic services, supply chain construction, modern agriculture, government-enterprise cooperation, and regional headquarters establishment.
According to the organizers, the JD Property RoboBase project is the first physical benchmark project under this agreement. Its groundbreaking ceremony was held in Huangpu District, Guangzhou. The project aims to create an integrated “R&D — manufacturing — application — service” ecosystem, building a high-end manufacturing, technology innovation, and ecological service hub for the robotics industry. It is expected to be fully completed by the end of 2028, with operations beginning in 2029, and projected annual output of approximately 1.75 billion yuan upon reaching full capacity.
During the event, Xian Yinsuo, Deputy Director of the Guangzhou Development Zone Management Committee and Mayor of Huangpu District, stated: “Going forward, we will focus on three key directions — critical components, robot bodies, and integrated applications — striving to build an embodied intelligent ‘City of Robots.'”
In recent years, the Guangzhou Development Zone and Huangpu District have accelerated the development of the embodied intelligent robotics industry. They have released the city’s largest catalog of “Robot+” application scenarios and innovation product directories, covering 16 key areas including industrial manufacturing, security inspection, smart cities, and smart healthcare, with 164 typical application scenarios. The district is home to 57 key industry chain enterprises, including 5 national manufacturing champions and 6 national “Little Giant” enterprises.
