XPeng Plans to Produce 1,000 Robots Monthly by Year-End, Significantly Accelerating Mass Production in the Robotics Industry

Bot Telegraph July 21st, according to sources, XPeng Motors plans to increase the monthly production capacity of its humanoid robot IRON to 1,000 units by the end of 2026, with a global market launch slated for 2027. This capacity target implies an annualized output of 12,000 units, placing it among the leading ranks in the global humanoid robot industry.

Notably, XPeng has chosen a deployment path for IRON that differs from its peers—prioritizing entry into retail stores as a shopping guide rather than into factories. He Xiaopeng explained at AI Day: “The cost of dexterous hands is high, making screw-driving unviable; the safety and generalization capabilities for entering homes are not yet sufficient. Tour guiding and shopping assistance are realistic starting points.” According to the plan, IRON will first enter XPeng stores as a shopping guide in the first quarter of 2027, followed by expansion into overseas markets in the second quarter.

Currently, XPeng has built a 110,000-square-meter full-chain robot base in Guangzhou’s Tianhe district. The contract was signed and construction began in February this year, with the main structure completed by June. He Xiaopeng personally took on the role of CEO of the robot business in June, comparing the current stage to “the eve of G3 mass production eight years ago.” At present, 12 mainstream automakers have entered the humanoid robot track. Companies like XPeng, BYD, and Xiaomi are pursuing a self-developed full-stack approach, while others like Li Auto and NIO are primarily testing the waters through investments.
